THE MEANING OF ANTIPODES
In the Greek language, anti- described the opposite and pod referred to feet. This literally translated to "with feet opposite of ours," referring to people living on the opposite side on the world.
Although Plato discussed the word in Timaeus, Antipodes first entered the English language with the 1398 translation of De Proprietatibus Rerum (Yonde in Ethiopia ben the Antipodes, men that haue theyr fete ayenst our fete).
Defined as the exact or direct opposite, geographically Antipodes means two diametrically opposing points on the earth. It colloquially refers to New Zealand and the surrounding area.
In publishing, Antipodes exemplifies our broad search for unique books, manuscripts or other writings that have a global appeal, ranging from children's stories to medical texts.
A UNIQUE CHILDREN'S BOOK SERIES
THE CAMMY® STORIES
THE CAMMY STORIES
Neurologist and Attorney James C. Johnston wrote a children's book series that remained private for years - until recently, with the release of The Bird, the Camel, the Deer and the Little Blond Girl.
This first book of the 'CAMMY®' series is a novel story introducing several extraordinary characters appealing to all ages but particularly engaging for the early reader.
The second book of the 'CAMMY®' series, The Deer with the Crooked Leg, follows the characters as they set out on the first of many adventures.
The third book, The Dog Stuck in the Fence, sets the stage for future books, which will focus on trust, kindness, sharing, and a cooperative approach to problems.
These books represent a new era of children's stories designed to advance cognitive skills, improve literacy, and promote emotional growth during the early childhood years, a critical period for brain development. And equally important, children will find these books an absolute treat as they engage with a diverse group of characters in a series of playful adventures.
The remaining books will be sequentially released on a regular basis.
